Divisions

Main Dance Division

The main dance division is designed for students looking for a recreational dance program. Enhanced concentration, coordination, and discipline are just a few of the skills learned at The Dream Center that will help foster a healthy mind and body. Throughout all levels of instruction, we employ Ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical (ages 10+), Contemporary (ages 10+) and Acrobatics. Advancement depends on age and student progression. The Dream Center wants to make sure every student enjoys dancing; while at the same time receives a high level of training. All students enrolled in the Main Dance Division have the opportunity to perform in our end of the year recital.

Competitive Dance Division

The Competitive Dance Division is designed for the most serious dancer. Placement into the company is by audition only, and requires a great deal of time, energy and dedication. Company dancers compete both regionally and Nationally, and perform in many community events and festivals. There are a number of requirements in order to participate, please see our Company Info page for more information.

Programs

DISCOVER AND DANCE
Discover and Dance is a unique and original early childhood dance program where students learn the foundations of dance while developing cognitively and socially. Three levels are offered in this progam, “Beginning Steps” - 3 yrs., “Flyin’ Fours” - 4 yrs., and “Creative Kinders” - 5-6 yrs. Students involved in this program will perform in our end of year recital as well as participate in a mid-year dance demonstration where the student’s families are invited into the classroom to watch their students dance progression.

Beginning Steps: 3 yrs. (By Dec. 31st) - Ballet/Creative Movement - 45 min. class

Our “Beginning Steps” program is specially designed to provide children 3 years of age with a strong foundation in dance and movement. Various props including rhythm sticks, beanbags and hoops are incorporated into the class. Our program teaches the young dancer the basic elements of movement and dance: space and how we relate to it, both as an individual and as a member of a group; the eight basic loco-motor movements; musical rhythm, beat and time; opposites and directions; and elementary ballet and dance steps. These concepts are explored through new and innovative themes every month.
Attire: Any color leotard, tights, skirt (if desired), pink ballet shoes

Flyin‘ Fours: 4 yrs. (By Dec. 31st) - Ballet/Tap Combo – 45 min. class

Our “Flyin’ Fours” program is specially designed for our pre-school students, 4 years of age. Tap fundamentals are explored during the first portion of class. Students learn beginning tap steps, combinations and how to count music. Tap enhances rhythm and foot articulation. The second half of the class focuses on beginner ballet technique. The children learn their basic ballet positions, balance, port de bras (arm movements), and beginner ballet steps. Students learn new dance concepts through a specialized theme introduced every month. Attire: Any color leotard, tights, skirt (if desired), pink ballet shoes and tan tyette tap shoes.

Creative Kinders: Kindergarten Students (5 yrs. by Dec. 31st) - Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo – 1 1/4 hrs

Children enrolled in the “Creative Kinders” program further their tap education by developing an outstanding sense of rhythm and musicality. They are also introduced to the correct disciplines of the ballet barre, ballet positions, body alignment, and center floor work. Students are introduced to basic Jazz technique, including warm-up, across the floor and combination work. It is a wonderful way to transition these dancers into the full 45 minute program the following year. Dancers perform two routines at the end of year recital.
Attire: Any color leotard, tights, skirt (if desired), pink ballet shoes, tan u-shell tap shoes and tan slip-on jazz shoes.

Ballet – (1st grade and up)

Ballet is considered the foundation of artistic dance. Its meticulous attention to technical detail makes it invaluable for any serious dancer. Combining proper alignment and body placement, seamless transitions through standard arm, leg and feet positions and astute sense of timing, it trains dancers to be clean, versatile performers. Advanced students, 13 years of age and older may begin pre-pointe after teacher recommendation. Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt or black knit shorts (if desired), pink ballet shoes.

Tap – (1st grade and up)

Musicality, sound quality, correct body placement, and terminology are emphasized in our Tap program. Creative avenues are explored with our younger students to develop ear training and basic rhythms. At the advanced level, students are taught the integration of tap dance and music as it relates to improvisation and choreography. Attire: Leotard, tights, dance pants or shorts, tan u-shell tap shoes (7-9yrs), and black full sole tap oxfords (10 and up).

Jazz – (1st grade and up)

Style and precision are masterfully integrated into the Jazz program. Warm-up exercises are designed specifically to increase flexibility and strength. The primary focus of all center floor combinations is total body control. Across the floor combinations focus on dynamics and fluidity. An upbeat class that’s not to be missed! Attire: Leotard, tights, dance pants or shorts, tan slip-on jazz shoes (7-12 yrs.), and black slip-on jazz shoes (13 and up).

Hip Hop – (1st grade and up)

Hip Hop is a blend of today's high-energy "street style" movement. Typically performed to popular music, this style of dance has been very sought after by teens, preteens and the "young at heart." The style boasts that everyone is capable of taking part and having fun! Attire: Comfortable dance attire, sneakers – please no jeans.

Lyrical – (4th grade and up)

Lyrical is a type of dance that is "an interpretation of words through music.” It is best categorized as a combination of ballet, jazz, and modern. Lyrical is a great form of creative expression. When you see a lyrical dance, you are watching a story that is set to music and motion. Lyrical is a great way for dancers to express their inner emotions. Lyrical is offered in conjunction with Jazz as a 1 1/2 hr. combination class. Students enrolled in the Jazz/Lyrical class are strongly encouraged to study ballet. Attire: Leotard, tights, dance pants or shorts, foot undeez.

Contemporary - (4th grade and up)

Born in the early 20th century, modern dance is a style that centers on a dancer's own interpretation, encouraging dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. Contemporary dance is characterized by its versatility: contemporary can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. At the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance technique allows experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement. Students must have previous ballet experience. Attire: Leotard, tights, dance pants or shorts, no shoes.

Acrobatics – (Kindergarten and up)

Acrobatic movements are combined with dance steps as students learn the fundamentals of movement and timing with tumbling. The Intro to Acro class is designed for our Kindergarten students. Dancers will work on basic floor tumbling skills, handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, bridges, backbends, etc. Dancers will work on overall control, flexibility and strength building exercises. The Beginner Acrobatic classes are designed for students with limited or no acrobatic experience. The Intermediate Acrobatics classes are designed to teach the more advanced floor tumbling skills. Please speak with staff about placement before registration. Attire: Leotard, tights or no tights
